History

VR Group, a.s. has been operating on the market since 1998 and specializes in the development and supply of training and simulation systems for armed forces. Thanks to its long-term cooperation with the Czech Armed Forces and international partners, it provides comprehensive solutions for air, ground, and live training, including tactical training systems and flight simulators.

1998

The founding of VR Group marked the beginning of its journey as a specialist in simulation training systems for the armed forces, building on its previous experience with modern simulation systems and virtual reality.

2000

VR Group played a key role in introducing simulation capabilities at the simulation center for training personnel at the battalion/brigade level in Brno. The first ever staff exercise was held, involving the 23rd Mechanized Battalion.

At the same time, the following was created: Modular Tactics Training System - MTTS.

2002

A comprehensive training system for the L-159 aircraft was launched after two years of development and included several simulators and training tools. At that time, long-term cooperation with the aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody began.

2004

The state-owned company LOM PRAHA became the sole shareholder of VR Group, a.s.

2005

VR Group has unveiled the STING laser combat simulator, built entirely from Czech components for indoor and outdoor tactical training using live simulation.

2008

The company has begun development of the WASP simulation system. This new constructive simulation system is initially being used for training crisis management teams, and will subsequently be used for tactical training at the level of smaller unit commanders as a supplement to training on virtual simulators, and for training commanders and staff up to battalion/brigade level.

2009

VR Group, a.s. has joined forces with Hexagon Systems, s.r.o., thereby significantly increasing its capacity and capabilities in the field of training systems for air forces.

2011

Based on several preparatory research projects and with practical support from CzAF, VR Group successfully developed a unique tactical training system for tactical aviation. The center, whose goal from the outset was to provide advanced BVR training, became the cornerstone of the training process in all types of aviation tactics.

2014

Based on proven principles and experience, a completely new system for training Mi-171 helicopter crew tactics, TCPT Mi-171, was delivered to the first customer. It combines a reconfigurable cockpit with a highly realistic tactical environment into a unique, highly effective training tool.

2016

A groundbreaking event using the WASP simulation system to fully support a large-scale exercise by the South Bohemian Region crisis management team together with two ORPs, which tested the capabilities of WASP, as well as the ASTRA communication system and other tools for managing and evaluating the exercise.

2017

The Slovak Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Liptovský Mikuláš is purchasing, in addition to the virtual simulators for tactical training already supplied by VR Group, the WASP simulation system, which is used in these virtual simulators.

2019

Close cooperation with aircraft manufacturer AERO Vodochody on the development of comprehensive synthetic training systems has resulted in the delivery of L-39 series aircraft simulators to foreign customers.

2022

The company has begun developing a new generation of STING-ISR virtual shooting ranges using the latest technologies in the field of live and virtual simulation.

2023

VR Group signs an industrial cooperation agreement with BAE System Hagglunds for the delivery of a comprehensive simulation training facility for the CV90CZ vehicle. The project, which includes the delivery of driver, gunner, and crew simulators, will be delivered to the Czech Army in 2028.

2024

In 2019, the company obtained a certificate from the Military Aviation Authority (ODVL SPSp MO) for the design, manufacture, and testing of aviation technology. It put this certification to good use in developing a simulator for the L-39NG/Skyfox aircraft, which obtained a Type Certificate as a Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 2 in accordance with the international CS-FSTD (A) regulation in the fall of 2024.

2025

Since 2023, a project has been underway to develop and deliver various levels of the WASP constructive simulation system to the Czech Armed Forces, enabling troops to train in the same environment and using the same technological resources they would encounter in a real conflict. The levels of the WASP simulation system range from training support on virtual simulators, through staff training, to wargaming applications.
